Newcastle United v Manchester United

2-5

Rooney, Nani, Van Persie x2, Kagawa

I would be surprised and disappointed if Scholes didn't play; people are talking about him as if he has played as poorly as Giggs, when really he has been quite good this season, arguably our best central midfielder.

I reckon the 'Caf will go into meltdown if we lose today and Scholes/Giggs play in midfield.

really?
sorry, but I haven't seen it.
I know there's been a lot of criticism lately regarding Giggs, but not necessarily Scholes.
In any case it's clear that Scholes can still do a more than decent job while Giggs seems to have lost it.
He could probably use the half season off like Scholes did last year :)

if scholes plays 'poorly' (which he doesn't) that's 100% down to fergie because he doesn't open up the wallet and bring in talent like vidal and marchisio to cover for scholes.

Why does Pirlo get to have midfield cover while scholes plays with chancers?

Right, I'm away to the pub for a few pre-match drinks.

Anyone care to join us? We're in the Strawberry and I'm the guy in a Leeds shirt. :)

NUFC 2 MU 3

Rally hoping Evans is fit and if not I'd prefer Wooton over putting Carrick there or anything. Against physical teams Carrick is going to offer little in defence and Wooton has some actual experience playing against Newcastle's strikers and didn't let anyone down. Would make more sense for me for him to start there and make sure the midfield is as strong as it can be so we can dominate the ball and reduce the pressure the defenders will come under.

If I was at home, I'd pop along... though I'd leave the United shirt at home I think!

I've actually never been in the Strawberry, though I use the car parks around it all the time. Been in Shearers a few times... it's a bit meh.

Can't see anything besides a United win. I have a feeling it's going to be a very good day..

NUFC 1 - 2 United..

2-1 either way, dependant on the line-up for us and if we actually wake up without having to go a goal down first.

Can't see anything but a Newcastle win. Think it's gonna be a long, stressful afternoon.

3-1 Barcodes.

Starting line-up

A. Lindegaard
Rafael
J. Evans
R. Ferdinand
P. Evra
M. Carrick
P. Scholes
Nani
S. Kagawa
W. Rooney
R. van Persie

According to Eurosport (usually right)

It's quarter to 3, I bet that isn't the team.

Can see why he went for Carrick and Scholes. (IF this is the right line up)

Newcastle are going to be playing a long ball game with a shit ton of big physical players, Carrick is at least tall and plays better with Scholes than Anderson or Cleverley.

Looking forward to seeing Kagawa, Nani, Rooney and RVP start together but would have liked some legs in midfield.

Would be surprised if the team has already been released, however from that team I'd only like to see De Gea in and Ando for Scholes. But then it all depends on where Rooney/Kagawa play. If they play high and wide then we'll have issues, if they play deeper and more narrow, leaving the width to Nani then I think the team would work well.

If we are playing a proper 4-2-3-1, I can't wait to see how it works out.

The legs with come from Kagawa Rooney and Nani, with Carrick and Scholes sitting in front of the back four collecting second balls- because Newcastle will just be pumping the ball long.

Playing better with Scholes should not be a reason for not including either Cleverley or Anderson ahead of him. Newcastle have a better midfield than Spurs, and we saw how Spurs went past Carrick and Scholes all too easily. Plus they have Ben Arfa who loves drifting in field, he'd probably have a field day running past both our 'experienced' midfielders.

#NUFC (4-4-2) v #MUFC: Harper; Santon, Williamson, Perch, Ferguson; Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Tiote, Gutierrez (c); Ba, Cisse.

Fancy us against that defense.

That back 4 is piss poor.
