Rio Ferdinand

Who the feck is Viv Powers and why does the BBC think we should give a shit what she thinks?

Given the huge coverage, I'd say Rio generated the awareness he was hoping for.

It may be abit stretched, but given how media savvy SAF and Rio are, one can't help but suspect this is some kind of media set up.

If not, sincerely hope Rio and SAF quickly work out a compromise which allows SAF to save face and so mob on from this petty saga and both concentrate on the real problem: the unacceptable use of racism in football and indeed modern day Britain.

No chance it was a set up.

I will take back my opinions from yesterday as this seems to have had the desired affect afterall following the games yesterday and the amount of players who followed suit.

But now what? I would like to see someone tell us what they want to see happen and why they are all so annoyed.

Obviously we know the reasons but it would be nice to see it being said officially. And anything to stick the boot into JT is a good thing.

Sack Fergie!Hire Rio !!(As player manager)

Ferguson doesn't know anything at all about what he is doing!!!

I dont understand the relevance of this post, whats it got to do with on-field performances or results?

I'm guessing it was in reference to a poster saying if Rio is punished he'd like to see Fergie get the sack. Or summat...

Rio knew full well that the t-shirts would be worn. He knows they have always worn them in the past. He has worn them in the past. Thus it is expected that he will.

If he plans not to he has to let management know. It's not a contractual obligation, it's basic common sense that should be expected from such an experienced player.

The moment he heard about Roberts' stance the first thing he did was go and twit shit around. The first thing he should have done is realise the shirts would be an issue that weekend and if he was planning not to wear one let his manager know. Clearly he did not.

Looking at some of the papers, the story appear to be over. They met, Ferdinand apologized for not giving Fergie the heads up, there won't be any disciplinary action and that's that.

:smirk:

I like how some are guessing at Rio's motives, like expecting a longer ban for Terry? Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't, but surely when you take into account how he's personally been treated on a national level is reason enough to be pissed at the Fa and a campaign they run? After all he's been victimised for an incident he wasn't even part of.

Again, whether he's right or wrong to wear the shirt, who are we to question what he believes in here?

As for those banging on about us talking about this, well it's an issue to do with a United, and this is a discussion board where, guess what, we discuss things about United. This may well all be a storm in a teacup, but what's wrong with talking about it?

Unless, of course, you think Saf should be sacked over it, in which case there's no hope for you

The players, FA, SAF, all have to do something regarding Racism, and all the issue aside, they're doing their best.

It's easy for us to say otherwise in an internet forum, but do you fecking expect Terry to get jailed for 1 month? Seriously, He got caught, got fined, and suspended. WTF does Rio expect more?

He can feck off for all I care if he decided to kick up a fuss with SAF over this. They got paid millions, and it's not like exactly Rio got racist attack of any sort, this whole fecking racist bullshit is getting out of hand.

It's Terry and Suarez vs. Evra and Anton, it's not like the whole FA is a bigotry racist. Punishment have been dealt with, I don't see anything wrong with what the FA are doing honestly.

'kin ell! Do you have no sympathy? We're now presuming he kicked up a fuss with SAF? This place can get ridiculous sometimes. Your first statement can be called into question. Especially when such a campaign counts for so little of the FA's funding. It's the question we should actually be focusing on instead of gobbing off about Rio or Fergie. Are we doing enough to kick racism out of football? You're coming at this situation from the wrong angle mate. Calm down and have a word with yourself.

This.

And I am of the belief that a man who has manged at the top level for so long and has always spoken against racism and other issues not just relating to the club, and with so so much experience must be knowing something in all of this.

What a ridiculous post.

Rio would have expected more than a 4 match ban and 1 week wages in fines. I certainly did. If thats how you punish someone guilty of racism, there's no point talking about kicking it out. it wont happen.

Rio has to wait till he's attacked racially himself? Are you fecking serious?

 You're all a joke.

"I hope he goes off into the sunset".

We're talking about a player here, versus the greatest thing to ever happen to this football club.

You should all be embarrassed. Forget the issue, or the context, if you're willing to back a player over the manager on ANY issue, further calling for the Great Man's head, you're a laughing stock.

 does anybody really talk like this?

I don't think there was ever a "Rio vs SAF" thing happening, its made up by gullible idiots like you who believe everything you read in the papers.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson says he has resolved his dispute with Rio Ferdinand over the defender's failure to wear a T-shirt supporting the Kick It Out anti-racism campaign group.

The pair held talks after Ferdinand arrived for training at Carrington on Sunday after the player became the only member of the United team not to wear the T-shirt ahead of Saturday's game against Stoke at Old Trafford.

Following Ferdinand's defiance over the issue Ferguson said the 33-year-old would be "dealt with".

But the pair have now resolved their differences, although Ferdinand is set to be rested for Tuesday's UEFA Champions League clash with Braga.

"I think he felt I should have spoken to him on Friday and I also didn't anticipate we would have any problem in the dressing room with wearing the T-shirt," said Ferguson.

"My advice to him is that I always feel the union (PFA) is stronger than an individual and it's important he airs his grievances to the right people, to the PFA or to the FA.

"It really has been just a communication problem.

"Obviously as the manager of a club, when you lay down policy you don't want to see it ignored and that's where my anger came from on Saturday.

"But we have resolved the situation and there are no lingering problems and we move on. That's the end of the matter."

The Scot also revealed he has decided to leave out Ferdinand and Patrice Evra for the Braga game ahead of the Premier League showdown with leaders Chelsea on Sunday.

"He and Patrice Evra will not play. There is a big game at Chelsea on Sunday. They will be the two main changes on Tuesday," added Ferguson.

The decision not to play Ferdinand could see Jonny Evans paired with rookie Scott Wootton against Braga at Old Trafford

Done with.

I'd like to think it's done, but no doubt it'll be the main topic of conversation in thebuild up to the Chelsea game.

So when all is said and done it turns out this was not that big of a deal, SAF and Rio chatted and worked it out. Shocking.

If it was a big deal and there was a massive bust up and as tension is on a knife edge, you can be sure that Ferguson won't let anyone outside the club know.

As far as the media is concerned, all is fine.

I'd like to think it's done, but no doubt it'll be the main topic of conversation in thebuild up to the Chelsea game.

Well the pundits will bring it up because they like to try and make things bigger than they are don't they? On the training pitch and in the locker room I doubt much thought will be given to it at all.

What will be an issue and what was going to be an issue anyways will be the reaction of Chelsea's fans to Rio and will Rio and Cole shakehands. Again both issues would be raised with or without the shirt issue.

Anyone think Rio might reject a 1 year extension for a move to a club that offers him a longer contract?

Could only see it if he moves abroad. Most top clubs have similar policies to ourselves when it come's to one year extensions and he's not gonna move to City or Chelsea. If he wants to maintain and build his popularity and remain at a competitive club it only makes sense for him to stay here.

Thought he was brilliant today! So composed on the ball - was third last for one goal and fourth for another. Brilliant at intercepting. His passing was also spot on today.

Seemed very serious about the game but as Rossa said he kept his cool. Chelsea's boo boys only motivated him. games like this remaind you of his ability.

Played some beautiful passes.

He held it down pretty much on his own with Evans and Carrick not having good days.
