Premier League Gameweek 30+31

Can't really say i'm surprised by the result. The games not played on paper, but if you looked at the two lineups before the game and said City would win 3-0, it wouldn't have surprised me.

Arsenal had a decent spell in the first half but didn't threaten much, then couldn't live with City when they moved up a gear.

Of course the two mistakes by Luiz didn't help, but I think regardless of that, City probably would have went on to win anyway. They had a couple of chances before the mistakes.

Arteta has a lot of work to do with that Arsenal team if he wants to get them back in and around the top four next season. I look at their team, and although they've got a couple of good youngsters, I just don't see where their spark is going to come from. A lot of work to do!

Not to mention the individual awards

Just how ?:wenger:
He's been absolute shit as a defender for almost a decade now. Scoring a few screamers doesn't suddenly mean he's a good player

Jesus that's a lot of awards. Look, unlike the people who hand out those awards i don't claim to be an expert on football. But I'm sorry, I have a cat who would be better at defending than Luiz.

Or maybe he is playing well for the most part. He doesn't normally have stinkers like today.

He more frequently than most CBs makes big mistakes. His positional awareness is dreadful, and unless he's paired with a much more experienced and solid CB, he'll usually be poor. He has poor leadership qualities, and is generally speaking not a good defender.

They are dreadful. How we haven't beaten them in the league over the last couple of seasons is embarrassing.
I feel shit enough that we only got 4 points off them, genuinely, if we miss out on top 4 by a point that's what i'd point to.

I'd imagine that Sheffield United would have grounds to take the PL to court but it will happen at the end of the season to see how much a loss of 2 points (assuming it stays a draw) impacts them in terms of league position.
On what basis? It's not the first time a mistake has cost a team.

In the league Arsenal have won away to Man City once since 2010, away to Chelsea once since 2008, away to Liverpool twice since 2009 and away to Man United once since 2002! Proper shocking stuff.

On the basis that the whole point of Goal-line tech is that these mistakes do not happen. It's a decision of it is a goal or it isn't a goal, there isn't any in between. With VAR decisions that look at red cards/penalty decisions it can still be down to the referees judgement if they think it was or it wasn't and that will vary. It doesn't matter what anyone thinks with the ball crossing the line, it either is over it or it isn't. The tech showed that it was over the line and they knew that while the game was still ongoing. The whole point of these systems entering the game was to stop things like this happening and the failure of it has cost them all 3 points. You play under the rules that if there is a case like this then goal line tech will judge if it was in or not. You don't play under the rules of goal line tech will judge if it was in or not but if it fails then we will just have to play as if it doesn't exist because it questions the integrity of the whole league and is unfair for one team to play in one condition when everyone else hasn't.

Fecking hell was Adebayor's winner the last time they won at your place? That's slowly creeping into a hoodoo akin to Tottenham's at Stamford Bridge.

Sheff Utd and Villa will pretty much always be a poor game. Sheffield is well drilled but they aren't exactly exciting to watch. Villa is shite. Water breaks are barely noticeable as they will normally happen during random stoppages I think. 1 minute.. It's fine. But ok I'll concede that one. The subs, they're still only allowed 3 slots to make subs in. Just can make 2 extras at one of those slots.

That's fair, I just think it's more due to it being a dominant City win against a shite Arsenal team and the other match being a match that was never going to be exciting. Once United play I'm sure everyone will be into it again. Not the same as with fans, but it's still the same football and I wouldn't say there's a big quality drop. Maybe the first game as they lack the sharpness, but's the same as the start of any season.

Perhaps, like I say, I hope it improves, but ended up switching off both games before the end. Hopefully things will gain momentum as they go on, but I felt it was very much like the Emirates Cup or the like today.

Thought City looked a little sluggish at the start which made Arsenal look better than they are, but once City's passing started to click there was no doubt which way this game was going to go. If anything they should have been more goals up at the break. It's a bit premature to jump to conclusions about Arteta and Arsenal, as they were starting to look decent before the Covid break, but he has got a big job on to even get them challenging for CL again never mind the title. Everton fans must feel relieved after watching that - the nightmare can't happen on Sunday.

I'm sure there'll be words in the agreements that the systems being used are not infallible and that'll be the end of it.

You have to go back to 2012 for their last league win at Anfield. Since then I think they have that one win at City and that’s it?

Did you guys even had a shot on target, I honestly don't recall. You certainly didn't deserve to win this game.
We scored a goal mate. Would have won us the game.
Villa were nailed by loads of bad decisions earlier in the season. I remember reading an article fairly early on that showed how they had legitimate claim to around 10 more points.

If they even tried allocating the game to Sheffield United after the fact Villa would go bananas.
I think we’ve had it worse with var this season tbh.

Seen various shows leading up to the PL restart over the last few weeks, and I've heard fans and pundits alike saying Arsenal's only chance in this fixture was because of their good away record. This was said by multiple Arsenal fans (Fanzone type of show) and "pundits" (Ian Wright, if you wonder why I wrote "pundit"). How does Arsenal fans delude themselves into thinking their away form is good? They haven't won away to a Top 6 rival in over 5 years ffs.

Maybe it's just me but this feels like a summer tournament with all these games in short space of time

Which is an other factory of sadness. I used to dislike Arsenal but now they are just pitiful.
I'd have assumed with you being French, you'd have a soft spot for Arsenal. I mean Wenger, Henry and all the French players he recruited. T'aime pas les joueurs de ton pays?

Let's say it this way, I was a kid who fell in love with United when Wenger and his frenchies were good and french pundits couldn't shut up about them while ignoring United.

God I love Roy Keane “Grealish, every time I looked at him he was laughing.”

Keane has used lockdown to become even more biting in his analysis. Pogba better not smile tonight or Roy will tear into him.

Edit - he just cracked a joke, what the feck is happening.

Why are the subs sitting with 4-5 chairs space in between, but only 2 rows in front. Surely the person in front is more at risk than someone at your side.

Sky's sound engineers seem to be way slower compared to their German counterparts. The delay is a little annoying.

I thought I missed Premier League football a lot. Turns out I didn't.
