The Fraizer Campbell Watch

Good cameo from him today, could have walked away with an assist and a goal, tore through 3 blackburn defenders and his cross was inches from Bent's boot, and headed wide.

Also showed good hustling and a willingness to fight to get the ball back. He's got a hell of a lot of potential and I hope Spurs start starting him in the UEFA cup.

Decent 15 min cameo today. He really should have scored with a header and he came agonizingly close to getting an assist after a good run and ditto left-footed low cross. Got knocked off the ball a few times. Lively.

So far, this would seem a vastly superior loan move to the Giuseppe Rossi fiasco.

Im still not convinced by his quality. His effort, top class.

Its like how Liverpool bet us earlier in the season, we had much better players on the pitch, but they bet us because they ran and ran.
I prefer quality players. Campbell is more of a runner and a hassler rather than a top striker.

He's 21.

The only 'top strikers' who are around the same age are Bojan and Benzema, and they're exceptional talents.

He's only generally been getting 10-20 minutes a game, and hasn't failed to make a positive impression yet, and the one start he has been given he scored 2, we really haven't seen enough of him to make a fair judgement yet, but what we have seen has been good.

Aguero is surely a top striker and is only 20, Pato at 19 is arguably a top striker as well. I'm sure there are a few others.

Not disagreeing with your point in general, just thought it was harsh on a few players to claim only two under 21s were top strikers.

Yeah I'd forgot about them two. I knew there was a few more than that but couldn't think of who.

Zarate's probably another one.

Pato's debatable though, he's showed signs of brilliance but he's been completely anonymous at times.

He's going to be a top premiership striker I reckon. Could you imagine if he was Spanish and had just come through the Barcelona ranks? The whole forum would be begging for his signature.

Thats a very true and telling comment.

Accordin to many on this forum: Young talented English player = Shite, overated or not ready.

Young foreign talent: Excellent, potentially worldclass, next[insert your own legendary player].

It gets a bit silly at times to hear many on this board say that at 21 they don't think his going to make it. How the feck do they know? and more importantly where are they seeing a large amount of players at they same age as Campbell who are better by a margin?

Foreign footballers get people on this forum alot more excitied than is justified.

i haven't been convinced by that lad at all. Given his reputation at junior level I expect far far better than what he has been able to produce right until now.

10 goals in 14 starts last season, 2 goals in 2 starts this season.

U make a good point lizardo, reckon the ranking would be full on had it not gone straight to given as well

Having the right manager at the club helps. Before Redknapp, Ramos never used him even when their top strikers couldn't score a goal to save their lives.

At Newcastle, Glen Roeder never used Rossi for the same reasons as Ramos.

Got a strange feeling we are going to let him go for decent money in the range of 8-11 million pounds to either Redknapp's Spurs or Martin O Neill's Aston Villa. Both managers like to buy English players. Redknapp likes ex-England internationals or those on the fringe of the England set and recurrect their careers like David James, Glenn Johnsen, Defoe, Crouch all at Pompey. O Neill likes to buy future English interationals like Ashley Young.

And he's only 18. Was keeping Henry on the bench for parts of last season and all.

That was political as much as anything else. Barca were getting a bit galactico so Bojan was from the youth team etc. Also people beginning to question his mental strengh (according to Sid Lowe - who usually knows his stuff re Spain).

NEC 0 - Spuds 1, 14 mins gone

Fraizer hits the crossbar, O'Hara scores from the rebound. A sort of assist in other words but he really should have scored.

Really?

Perhaps if he'd played more than a couple of games and scored a few more goals then people may have a higher opinion of him.

I've watched him play a few times this season and he looks like a good prospect but at the moment nothing more. The question should be is he as good or better than what we already have - and at the moment he isn't.

I hope he gets his chance and improves to the point where he merit s place at United on a regular basis. At the moment he's not even in Spurs starting line up so he's got a fair way to go though.

While some on here may go on like that but just as many are just as ridiculous in their praise for United players who have done very little just because they're UNited players - the example in this thread being someone's belief that Campbell (one season at Hull in the championship and half a dozen games for Spurs) is a better player than Bojan (18, Spanish Internaional and consider by many in football to potentially be one of the brightest talents of his generation).

we had teh same with Rossi - loads on here having a day of mourning when he was sold, despite him hardly appearing for the first team or ever doing anything of note.

Some people on here should realise that you can have a negative opinion and it won't make you any less of a united fan.

True. An instance of this perhaps:

That in itself is probably more of a stupidly thoughtout retaliation to some of the over-hyping of foreign talent that goes on around here. Bojan is as you say one of the best young talents in the world and has achieved far more at youth level than Campbell has.

That said Bojan and a couple of other great foreign talents aside there is a general down rating of non-united english talent as oposed to over-hyping of foreign talent.

Bojan has scored 700+ goals through the whole set of Barcelona youth teams, and could hold a rotation place with Ronaldinho, Messi, Eto'o, Henry and Dos Santos.

Bojan is better than Campbell.
I don't agree. I don't have to look at his record to make up my mind either. I just have to watch both play.
If Campbell had been at a Barca he'd have got his chance much earlier than he has here. Campbell is stronger, faster, as good with either foot and a good finisher. Not bad at link up player either. Can beat a man well too. He may not be as intelligent as Bojan but he is no dummy either. I've little doubt Campbell, barring injuries and given proper playing time and can go on to be a Drogba or an E'too in a year or 2. Two players whom at their best I'm sure are better far than Bojan as it stands now.

Besides for me I dont like my strikers small and weak. I like them tough. So your damn right I prefer Campbell to Bojan and wont make any appologies about it.

& to just reiterate what I mean about chances. Look at Rossi. He hardly got a sniff here, but is currently a key member of the team that was the second best in Spain last year.

Sad but true. Personally I rate him higher than Bojan.

The most ridiculous thing I have ever read on here.

Bojan has probably 50 caps for Barca, hes 17/18. Campbell is 21, and has the odd cap for us.

Campbell is championship class imo. Im afraid hes not going to make it with us.

I have said before, his effort is sensational, but the rest of his play is very average -championship-, bar his finishing.
