MERGED: Rooney signs new contract!

Sir Alex said:
That’s what happens, that’s the problem with potential – people don’t identify potential, they’re very poor at it. I’ve identified it all my life within young people – I know potential, I know how it can be developed and I know how to have faith in it - young people surprise you when you give them an opportunity. And that’s what this club is about. So when you see Manchester United at the moment with all these young players, you can’t see Manchester United three years ahead because you’re not thinking about that.

That could have been Sir Matt speaking

I have never been more proud of our football club than in the last 36 hours or so, reading and hearing what Sir Alex has been saying. Players come, players go, but our spirit is stronger than all of them put together.

Love fergie!:D

Will be nice to put this to bed as he says, nothing worse than a big saga

What the hell? Is this true?

DoronSalomon: Rooney on loan to Real in exchange for Benzema? Apparently it's just happened, i've been out of the loop.

He tweeted to correct himself saying it'll happen tomorrow :nervous:

 - err no! two random blokes tweeting to each other....tweet before was about FM2011 demo being out shortly!

We/Real wouldn't be able to register anyone until January anyway, so any talk of a loan deal right now is bullshit

Yup, but something significant has to happen tomorrow for this to be as fergie says 'put to bed', either some sort of loan deal or simply a statement saying Rooney will never play for the club again you'd think are the likeliest options.

using idiom 'put to bed' in any context re: Rooney makes me chuckle...

Good point :

Forget Rooney 'greed.' Biggest sin is thinking he's too good for his team and team-mates. If he wants trophies, why continue England career?

More motivaiton to have a successful season. Imagine winning the treble, fecking hell

Please change this poor guys username.

I have so much respect for Torres right now. He's in a sinking ship, one that didnt even mould him to be what he is, one which is not even close to winning trophies, one where he hasnt enjoyed an iota of success and could probably command whatever wages he desires elsewhere. But still decides to stick with them. Amazingly enough, he's the one looking better than this fat ungrateful prick who after being given so much still decides to act like this.

True and he's a foreigner who has never actually experienced any trophy success, is older than Wayne so would have more of a right to be demanding a move right now.

This need quoting. In large text.

Rooney's treading new ground here. Loads of examples of players who fancied a move, whether for a better chance of a trophy, or a fatter contract (Torres and Fabregas spring to mind) but this is the first time any footballer has ever tried to bully the club/manager into giving him what he wants with such a public display of dissent. Fergie can't ever pick him again after this. He's been astonishingly disrespectful to his manager and his team-mates. There's no way he can start another game.

I couldn't give a feck about whether there's any truth to his alleged reasons for wanting to leave (and there might well be) but the way he's going about it is setting a new low.

And he's doing all this immediately after spending the summer letting down his country and disgracing his family?

Absolutely despicable human being. Scum of the earth. I hope he's shown the door tomorrow. Don't give a feck whether we get any money for him or not. Not fit to wear the shirt.

Nice to see you off the fence once in a while, good post.

signing the 'very talented unknown kid from mexico' is not in anyway an assurance that we are attracting/signing the best players.

Which I think was Rooney's point?

All im saying is, his points in his statement were valid, and anyone of the squad could say the same thing and it would still be valid.

People are assuming he is a money grabbing whore, despite SAF stating that the money part of the contract negotiations werent reached.

How can his motive be money, if he didnt know how much we were gonna offer him?

I dont buy the money motive, and im not naive enough to believe he is a martyr here, im sure there are lots more factors.

Jesus wept, people ain't assuming shit.. they can see that scouse cnut for what he is... a prick. How can anyone take a guy like this seriously... remember his rant at England fans with regards to loyalty! Ambition or not, the guy is a blatant hypocrite and we're better off without him. He has never had a world class season where we have won major trophies, no legendary standout season where his name will be enshrined in folklore... he has left this club with barely a legacy, an idiot in every sense of the word.

in his defence, what ambition have the club shown since getting rid of the BPITW and Tevez? We signed a £7 million pound unknown and a kid from Mexico. So purely from a football perspective, his comments are valid.

If he wants the money, then Spain is where he will go. 500k at City, he would lose half that in tax.

what makes you think SAF will allow him to go to our noisy neigbours?

bad enough we are losing a good player but it would rub salt into the wound if the cnut ends up across the road..

Has anyone explained the cow analogy?

Are you serious? It's as plain as day to understand.

I'll break it down:

Sometimes you look in a field and see a cow.

Certain player is available or rumours that they're available in the transfer market. See the transfer forum for the muppet style posters.

You think it is a better cow than the one you see in your field.

i.e. The grass is greener. In Rooney's case, shitter players earning more money than him at City. So effectively he should be earning that in his view.

Some players like to think the world is better somewhere else. It never really works.

In short. Rooney has it good here and he doesn't think he does or can get a better experience elsewhere. He can only realise this after he leaves.

Fergie has shone brightly amongst this bullshit ...another speech with quotes that'll used for decades to come

His biggest sin is doubting Sir Alex Fergusons will to win.
