Is starting a nuclear war disqualifying for the Nobel Peace Prize?
Might be frawned upon by the committee. Is starting a nuclear war disqualifying for the Nobel Peace Prize?
Guardian said:The product description said the coin, designed to celebrate the summit, “will be made whether or not the summit occurs”.
According to the White House gift shop, this is because “the theme is coming close to peace and celebrates the act of communication among countries”.
These breakup letters are never easy to read.
It’s a real shame this, it seemed like NK were starting to see sense.
Have you followed NK at all the past 30 years? It was clear as day it would end in something like this.
Oh yeah no doubt but the crazy level seemed to be dropping especially after the South Korea talks.
I doubt many others outside the US thought Trump's childish threats and attitude were going to achieve that objective. It’s a real shame this, it seemed like NK were starting to see sense.
North Korea still happy to meet/speak with the US at any time.
All back on Trump now. Interesting to see how it plays out.
Did the Koreans have a summit and cut the US out of the loop? Or is there some merit to the theory that the US brokered/facilitated the summit?

The Korean summit, which has already happened, is separate from the US/North Korean one that is being negotiated now.
Korean leaders meet in surprise summit
Balked at reading through 42 pages(!) to see if it's been pointed out already, but there is a theory that this whole sequence is a China power play. AKA Kim Jong Un is literally doing what China tells him to do and when.
Long story short, make the US look wishy-washy/foolish and merrily continue with the BRI.
If someone's already mentioned that, then +1.
As I understand this, US/N Korea were supposed to speak on June 12th. Trump pulled out of that but there are still discussions happening to put that back on track. Then I saw this headline on BBC and it kinda confused me a little because of the way the title is worded ("surprise").

I don't think this whole thing is purely a Chinese power play to further their BRI. I would assume that they're just making the most of a situation where the US is fumbling a little and they're just in the right place at the right time to make the most of the whole thing. (BRI happening to be one of their key agenda)
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-44265287The leaders of North and South Korea have met in the demilitarised border area between the two countries.
The meeting is only the second between South Korea's Moon Jae-in and the North's Kim Jong-un.
It comes as the two sides continue efforts to put a historic US-North Korea summit back on track.
US President Donald Trump cancelled the summit, scheduled to be held in Singapore on 12 June, but later suggested it might still go ahead.
The latest talks were held on the northern side of the Panmunjom truce village, between 15:00 and 17:00 local time (06:00 and 08:00 GMT), Mr Moon's office said.
"Both leaders exchanged opinions... for the successful holding of the North Korea-US summit," it added, saying that Mr Moon would announce the outcome of the talks on Sunday morning.
Good . Would be good for the world if something good comes of thisThe summit looks like its on. Moon, Kim, and Trump are all posturing in public but have been negotiating behind the scenes to get back on track for the 12th.

There's a good chance this will work out. Kim desperately needs it now after having gotten a whiff of global acceptance by way of Xi, Moon, and Trump. There's really no going back for him at this point. Trump also wants this to badly chalk up a "win" for his domestic credibility.
I actually think that North/South reunification could be in the cards down the road if this works out as long as Kim's future safety is guaranteed.
To be honest i think this as been happening in this whole negotiation.NK would do well to make peace via SK and China and cut out the US altogether.
This reunification....what exactly does that mean? One country? If one country then who would govern it...Kim or Moon? There's a good chance this will work out.
