hernandez still look very rusty to me, maybe berba might get his chance
In his first season with Spuds he scored 12 league goals. In his second, 15.
What exactly were you expecting? Alan Shearer?
Boss heaps praise on Berba
Sir Alex has paid tribute to Dimitar Berbatov’s professionalism as the Bulgarian waits for his chance to reclaim a starting spot.
Last season’s joint-Golden Boot winner has been the subject of a couple of enquiries but is staying at Old Trafford to fight for his place.
Despite Danny Welbeck’s emergence and Javier Hernandez’s return to fitness giving the manager more options in attack, the Bulgarian’s attitude has been exemplary.
With Michael Owen also back in full training, the competition is probably as tough for a place in the forward line as anywhere within the champions' star-studded squad.
“Berbatov has been brilliant,” enthused the manager. “His handling of the situation has been terrific. He’s not complained one bit.
“He’s a really good professional and he’ll play his part, like all the players on the team. It won’t be at this moment in time because the space between games is good. Then we’ve got the international break for two weeks and, when they come back, the European games start up and Berbatov will be involved as he’s got the experience and the ability to play a big part.”There was no question of any suitors being able to capitalise on the situation by snapping up the former Spurs striker despite speculation starting from the moment he was left off the bench for the Champions League final defeat to Barcelona.
“We had a couple of calls but I’m not going to sell Berbatov,” stated Sir Alex. “No way. He’s first-class, the lad, I must say he’s been tremendous and never complained one bit.
“He’s handled the situation well and he’s got that determination about him. Nobody was more disappointed than Berba that night [at Wembley], but he’s been no problem at all.”

I have a feeling Fergie would use him more in Europe than in the Premier League. His style just suits Europe more.
Carrick hasnt played either.
Berba not playing yet isnt that big a deal. Its a long season.
Its only a problem if the player isnt happy at not being first choice. Berba understands his role according to Fergie. He is fantastic and I'm glad we have him
September 1, 2011. Still at United. Now for some playing time, please.
Why are you so desperate for a player to get playing time when we've been playing so damn well without him? I'm a big fan of Carrick but I kinda hope he hardly gets to kick a ball right now because that will mean the Ando/Tom partnership is going from strength to strength.
It must be a Berba thing.
I'm desperate to see Berba play again too. Can't say I'm bothered about Carrick though
Same here.I'm desperate to see Berba play again too. Can't say I'm bothered about Carrick though
Why? Why are you desperate to see Berba play? Have you not watched us this season?
Despite common opinion on here. Berba thrives most in a speedy environment. He was at his best at Spurs when they were flying. Because it was easier for him to link up with speed merchants Bergkamp style......
I want to see him again for several reasons, he was wonderful last year before he was dropped, he's never complained once ( even though he should have been on the bench for the Champions League ) and I'd love to see how he fits in....
Yes of course I've watched us, and our play has been scintillating. You obviously think Berba is going to slow down our play.

Desperate? Definitely not. Would I like to see him play? Yes, please. We are looking very good so far this season and I like the way the team is playing. But why do you assume we would play worse with Berba included? I am more than curious to see how he would fit in, plus I miss watching him play football. Pure joy, imho.
I haven't said that, but if it aint broke...
Although history does tell me we play less exciting football with him in the team.
I posted a while back Berba will have the opposite of last season where he was excellent for the first half but was limited in the second half - this year I expect him to get more matches post christmas.
When sterner tests come it will be Carrick and Fletcher getting the nod not Berba. I think SAFE has pretty much decided on a gameplan against the top sides but it will not include Berba - its something Berba has come to accept.
Not sure at all what role Berbatov will play this season. Hard to see him getting regular playing time.
Very true but I do expect him to get more European matches this season, if he proves that he is in good form in the group stage, I expect him to play a bigger role later on as well.
I am waiting quite eagerly for any real updates on the Berbatov situation.
Either he signs or goes. But surely this must be sorted within the next few weeks
I just dont want to see it run and run. His situation is clearly a question which needs to be answered
Like I said above I will be shocked if we start a new season and he hasnt either signed a new deal or being sold
My point is that Fergie has to decide this summer. Either give him a contact now or sell him
I am convinced Fergie doesnt see a place for him at our club.
I have no idea if he will go or stay before September but it is laughable that some appear blind that the club have not or are not at least considering selling him for the new season
SAF is honest with his players. If Berba didnt feature in his plans he would have told him so and Berba would have gone. Injries, suspensions, loss of form, tiredness, international matches will all feature and I am sure Berba will get plenty of playing time. As long as he stays sharp in training he will be fine.
Heres one to check on at the end of the season - I expect Berba to score no more than 5 goals less than Hernandez.
Berbs certainly doesnt look unhappy sitting on the bench - I think he's professional enough to know that his time on the pitch will come. very pleasing to see he isn't being a prima donna like Tevez was.
"I had Ferguson on the phone but he said he was counting on Berbatov and it was not for sale "
Blind indeed. I think this illustrates why people see you as 'anti-Berba'.
Some humble pie will be eaten...again.
I would have a smile from ear to ear if I was getting paid a bucket load to sit on the bench too.
